Breast Reduction – Minimize Your Breasts Size for Improved Proportion

Large breasts can be uncomfortable and even cause low self-esteem for most women. Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty can, however, reduce the size of your breasts. This procedure involves surgery in which extra tissue, fat, and skin are removed to reduce the size of breasts which also gives it a new shape. Liposuction may also be used to help remove fat. If your enlarged breasts are mainly composed of fat, liposuction may be used to remove the extra fat. This surgery should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited facility. Dr. Bloch from Chicago is board certified and performs breast reduction among other breast surgeries at his state-of-the-art facility, Body by Bloch.

Breast reduction surgery procedure

Breast reduction involves major surgery. You will, therefore, be put under general anesthesia to keep you pain-free and relaxed throughout the operation. After you are asleep, Dr. Bloch will then make some incisions to remove extra breast tissue, fat, and skin. If your areola is enlarged as a result of stretched skin from the heavy weight of breasts, it will be reduced in size. The surgery may reposition the nipple and areola. Incisions are then closed with sutures after surgery. Your breasts will be dressed with bandages after surgery. Tiny drains will also be placed on both breasts. The whole procedure takes about 3 to 5 hours. You will be discharged after the anesthesia wears off. Your surgeon will provide you with medications to take at home that include pain pills and antibiotics for infection control.

How are breast reduction results?

Breast pain and swelling after surgery is normal but can be controlled with pain medication and a cold compress. You need to stay away from any strenuous tasks for at least 4 to 6 weeks following surgery. You can, however, resume work after several weeks. Drains and dressings will be removed within three days while stitches will be removed after about two weeks. Dr. Bloch will recommend wearing a surgical bra or any supportive bra to ensure that your breasts heal well without any strain. Observing follow-up visits will ensure that you are recovering well. Your breasts will heal completely after a few months after which the swelling will also disappear. Incision scars will remain hidden under your clothes but will not fade completely. Your new breast contour will be more youthful and will give you more confidence. Book a consultation with Dr. Bloch at www.bodybybloch.com.
