It’s a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, hips, and lower back, to raise the buttocks and outer thighs and to tighten the underlying muscles of the abdominal wall.
It is frequently combined with Liposuction, so you are also encouraged to also read our information on liposuction. A lower body lift is usually performed alone due to the length and extent of this procedure.
Am I a good candidate?
Like most of Dr. Bloch’s patients, needing a body lift can be because of several different reasons such as dramatic weight loss, multiple pregnancies or through the natural aging process.
Having dramatic weight loss achieved by either a surgical or through traditional methods and can be a phenomenal life changing experience. We have found that most of our patients have found themselves with more energy, a greater quality of life through an improved self-confidence. Unfortunately, the excess sagging skin may also result from extreme weight loss. Through plastic surgery techniques, this problem can only be corrected, by removing the loose skin and restoring a more natural shape.
Many people invest a lot of time and effort into losing a large amount of weight are left disappointed and disillusioned after weight loss by the sagging skin. Fortunately, there are many ways to give certain areas of your body a much-needed lift. Dr. Bloch offers contouring procedures that will help you look your best after significant weight loss.
Multiple Pregnancies or Aging
Another reason for this procedure is when your skin has lost a lot of its elasticity either due to the natural aging process or multiple pregnancies, and liposuction in itself may not be enough to restore a more youthful shape.
The Procedure
A lower body lift consists of a circumferential incision in the waistband area. Liposuction is usually combined with this procedure to sculpt the hips, thighs, buttocks and abdomen. The excess skin is removed, the abdominal muscles are tightened, the buttocks are lifted and the saddlebags are significantly reduced. The skin over the thighs, buttocks, hips and abdomen is significantly tightened; giving a result that cannot be achieved with any other surgical method.
Advances in surgical techniques have reduced the length of surgical time and advances in post-op pain management allow the patient to be ambulatory within an hour of surgery.
Recovery
After your surgery has been successfully performed, dressing or bandages are put on the incisions. The excess body fluid and blood that may collect inside the surgical sites is usually drained using thin tubes that are inserted in place after the surgery. Dr. Bloch will also provide specific instructions that you will need to follow in order to care for the surgical sites.
If your fitness & general health levels are good, it can be quite possible to return to work during your 2nd post-operative week of getting a lift, but this depends on your job description. We recommend that you do not lift more than 10 lbs for the first few weeks.
