Restylane FAQS
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a crystal-clear gel that is made up of Hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found inside the body. It is injected inside the skin to add volume to the lips and erase folds and wrinkles in the skin. In short, it is considered as a dermal filler.
How is Restylane treatment performed?
The gel is injected in tiny amounts into the skin using a very fine needle.
How long does the procedure last?
This injection is quick, easy and very simple. Because hyaluronic acid is normally found inside the body, there is no need to have the person undergo a pre-test for allergies. The whole treatment procedure will last for a 30 minutes depending on the number of areas to be treated.
What are the indications for the procedure?
Restylane can be used to shape the face, add volume to thin lips and smooth out wrinkles and folds in the face. However, remember that very deep folds and wrinkles may be quite difficult to treat. You may need a different treatment for that.
Is the process painful?
Because it involves injection, the pain may come from needle pricks. If you have a very low threshold for pain, the doctor may use a topical anesthetic. As for the lips, a local anesthetic is given prior to the injection of the gel itself.
How long is it before the results are seen?
You can immediately see the results after the procedure.
What happens after the injection?
You can expect tenderness, swelling and slight redness in the injection sites following the treatment procedure. At times, itchiness may also manifest. These typically subside after a few days. If you feel uncomfortable, contact your physician immediately.
Furthermore, do not rub or massage the treated areas 48 hours after the procedure. For those who received Restylane treatment on the lips, do not pucker your lips for the first 48 hours. Also, avoid exposing your face and lips to extreme sunlight.
