Microdermabrasion in the Chicago Metro Area- Even Your Skin Tone Non-surgically

If you have an uneven skin tone, microdermabrasion also known as Microderm may be a useful treatment for you. This is a non-surgical skin treatment that exfoliates skin by removing dead skin layers to boost collagen production while at the same time revealing a smooth and younger looking skin which easily absorbs lotions, creams and other nutritional skin products for an enhanced youthful appearance. The procedure also clears skin roughness, dullness, age spots and other skin blemishes. Microderm treatment should be performed by a well trained aesthetician or dermatologist. Treatment takes a few minutes and does not involve surgery. Request an appointment at our state-of-the-art spa at

Microdermabrasion procedure steps

Imagine a very fine sand blaster and you’ll get a picture of how microdermabrasion works. It uses microparticles, or a diamond-tipped wand, to remove the top layer (epidermis) of your skin and stimulate new skin growth.

Two kinds of microdermabrasion procedures

There are two kinds of microdermabrasion treatments. One approach involves a hand-held device that streams tiny crystals across your skin.

An attached vacuum simultaneously suctions those exfoliating crystals back into the machine, along with the dead or loosened skin.

The newer approach uses a diamond-tip wand that is gently moved across your skin to exfoliate.

Each treatment will last about a half hour. You may feel a mild scratching as the procedure removes the superficial skin cells.

Additionally, you’ll notice a vibrating sensation akin to a massage. There is also a suction mechanism to lift off the dead skin.

How are recovery and microdermabrasion result like?

Microdermabrasion has no downtime. You can resume your normal activities on the same day of treatment.

Your skin will have a new polished look after treatment. To prolong this new look, your aesthetician will recommend using special facial products and moisturizers that will enhance your look. To prolong the new look, a repeat treatment session once per month may be recommended. Additional treatments have more enhanced results if done professionally.

When to consider microdermabrasion

Does microdermabrasion have any risks?

Unlike surgical skin treatments, microdermabrasion has no serious side effects. You might experience some slight discomfort during the procedure from the suction process that removes dead skin cells. Swelling and redness will likely be experienced in treated areas. These are, however, short-lived and you can be fine after a few hours. Bruising will also go away after a few hours. Other conditions that you will likely experience after a few days following Microderm treatment include skin dryness and flakiness. Skin might also be more sensitive when exposed to the sun immediately after treatment. To reduce most of these side effects, your medical provider will recommend special skin soothing creams and lotions as well as sunscreen. Staying away from the sun will prolong your results.
