Cheek Augmentation in Chicago for Sunken Cheeks
If you wish to achieve full and youthful cheeks, cheek augmentation could be right for you. This is cosmetic surgery that makes the cheeks fuller with the use of implants. Implants are solid materials that are compatible with human tissues that enhance the look of cheekbones and make cheeks look fuller. Some plastic surgeons may use structural fat grafting or injectable fillers that use soft tissue filler or your own fat to restore the appearance of cheeks. A board-certified plastic surgeon should perform the surgery for you to minimize risks and give you a satisfying look. Cheek augmentation is among the many facial treatments that Dr. Bloch from Chicago performs at his facility, Body by Bloch. You can arrange a consultation meeting with him at www.bodybybloch.com. The cheek surgery can be combined with other facial procedures such as facelift, brow lift, rhinoplasty or eye lift.
CHEEK AUGMENTATION OVERVIEW
-
- Cheek augmentation helps sunken cheeks and facial hollows.
- Cheek implant surgery improves facial contours and restores lost volume. A wide variety of facial implants are currently available for the enhancement of cheeks. Cheek implants vary widely not only in shape and style, but also in terms of the materials from which they are fabricated.
-
- Cheek implant materials include Alloderm and Gore-tex (yup, the same stuff as your winter parka).
- Nearly 9,000 cheek implant procedures were performed last year, a 16% decline from 2000.
How is cheek implant surgery performed?
Cheek augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. After you are relaxed, Dr. Bloch makes incisions either on your lower eyelid or inside the mouth. Through the incision, the implant is inserted and supported with deep sutures. Incisions can also be used for other facial procedures that you want to be done along cheek augmentation. After implant placement, incisions are closed with stitches or sutures. Scarring is less minimal with incisions done inside the mouth.
Facial implants risk and safety
The decision to have facial implant surgery is extremely personal, and you’ll have to decide if the benefits will achieve your goals and if the risks and potential complications of facial implants are acceptable.
You will be asked to sign consent forms to ensure that you fully understand the procedure and any risks and potential complications.
Facial implant surgery risks include:
-
- Unfavorable scarring
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Poor healing of incisions

- Change in skin sensation
- Damage to deeper structures – such as nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and lungs – can occur and may be temporary or permanent
- Allergies to tape, suture materials and glues, blood products, topical preparations, or injected agents
- Firmness around the implant
- Shifting of implants
- Skin contour irregularities
- Skin discoloration, swelling and sensitivity
- Persistent pain
- Possible revisional surgery
These risks and others will be fully discussed prior to your consent.
What recovery do I expect?
After surgery, you will experience pain in areas operated. Dr. Bloch will provide pain medication for use at home for a couple of days following the surgery. Swelling and mild bruising may also persist in your face for some weeks. You will be advised to cut down on strenuous activities for a few weeks. You can, however, resume work after a week as long as you don’t take any strenuous activities. Follow-up with your plastic surgeon will ensure that you are recovering well.
