Nose Surgery Q & A

What is nose surgery?

Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which Dr. Bloch changes the shape, structure, and function of your nose. Nose surgery can improve the appearance of your nose and your breathing by restructuring bone, skin, and cartilage.

What are the benefits of nose surgery?

If you’re unhappy with the shape, overall appearance, or function of your nose, nose surgery offers the following benefits:

  • Better nose and facial symmetry
  • A narrower bridge
  • Elimination of a nose bump
  • Alterations in the tip of your nose
  • Changes in nostril size
  • A more proportioned face
  • Improved breathing
  • More self-confidence

Dr. Bloch personalizes each procedure to match your needs and desired outcome. He makes your nose aesthetically pleasing using the most innovative technology and procedures. And with the VECTRA 3D® imaging system, you can view what your nose will look like after surgery beforehand.

Is rhinoplasty right for me?

To find out if you’re a good candidate for nose surgery, Dr. Bloch reviews your medical history and examines your nose. He discusses your desired outcome and lets you know which procedure best matches your needs.

Good candidates for nose surgery are in good health, have completed facial growth, have realistic expectations, and don’t smoke.

How should I prepare for surgery?

Follow the pre-surgery instructions Body By Bloch gives you to achieve the best outcome. Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you a night or two, stop taking certain medications if Dr. Bloch recommends it, don’t smoke, and avoid eating and drinking the morning of surgery.

What happens during nose surgery?

Prior to nose surgery, you receive general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Bloch makes a tiny incision at the base of your nose or inside the nostrils, readjusts the shape and structure of your nose, and closes the incision. He places bandages, dressings, or splints in your nose and allows you to recover in a special room while staff monitors you for complications.

What should I expect after the procedure?

You can often go home the same day as surgery, but someone must drive you home and stay with you for at least one night. Get plenty of rest with your head elevated. Follow post-surgery instructions, take medications as prescribed, and attend all follow-up appointments at Body By Bloch. Expect some swelling, bruising, and slight bleeding or drainage.

Avoid strenuous activities until Dr. Bloch says it’s okay. Don’t blow your nose, and take baths instead of showers. Avoid resting glasses on your nose for several weeks and protect your skin from the sun. Swelling subsides over time as you begin to notice your final, aesthetically pleasing result.
