Breast Surgery Q & A

What is breast surgery?

Breast surgery is a surgical procedure that improves the look of sagging breasts, small breasts, or irregularities associated with genetics, age, nursing, pregnancy, or weight loss.

Breast surgery adds firmness and volume or enhances the shape of your breasts. You can choose from breast augmentation to make your breasts larger, a breast lift, or both to increase fullness and lift breast sagging at the same time.

Is breast surgery right for me?

Dr. Bloch lets you know if you’re a good candidate for breast surgery after reviewing your medical history and examining your breasts during a visit to Body By Bloch. It might be a good option if you:

  • Don’t smoke
  • Are physically active and in good health
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Experience loss of breast volume or sagging
  • Have one breast that’s lower than the other
  • Have nipples that point downward
  • Experience low self-esteem because of sagging or small breasts

Dr. Bloch advises you on whether a standard breast lift, breast lift with implants, or implants only is a good choice for you. If you desire larger breasts, he helps you choose an implant size and shape you’re comfortable with for the breast augmentation surgery.

How should I prepare for breast surgery?

To prepare for breast surgery, follow Dr. Bloch’s pre-surgical instructions that might include:

  • Lab tests
  • A medical evaluation
  • Adjusting current medications
  • Not taking certain medicines
  • Not smoking
  • Getting a baseline mammogram
  • Not eating the morning of your procedure

Make plans to have someone drive you home the day of your scheduled surgery and stay with you for at least one night.

What happens during the procedure?

Prior to breast surgery, you receive anesthesia to put you to sleep. Depending on the surgery you choose, such as breast augmentation, Dr. Bloch takes the necessary approach.

Dr. Bloch makes an incision in your breasts, lifts the tissue, and reshapes the breasts to optimize firmness and contours for a lift. He inserts breast implants under skin or muscle tissue during breast augmentation if you desire larger breasts.

Dr. Bloch may reposition or reshape your nipples and areolas. He removes excess breast tissue if it exists, closes the incisions, and bandages your breasts.

What should I expect during my recovery?

After breast surgery, you go to a recovery room and wait for the anesthesia to wear off. You can usually head home the day of surgery. Wear an elastic bandage or support bra as directed by Dr. Bloch to support your breasts while they heal. You might require temporary tubes to allow excess fluid or blood to drain from your body.

Take medications as prescribed by Dr. Bloch, get plenty of rest, keep your incision site clean, and call Body By Bloch if you experience unusual symptoms or worsening pain. Attend all follow-up appointments.

Don’t live with sagging, too small, or asymmetrical breasts if they diminish your self-esteem. Schedule a breast surgery consultation with Body By Bloch over the phone or online today.
